Providing family planning services to communities

What

  • Training for community-based family planning providers in counselling techniques and family planning services, and assistance with the provision of contraceptives.
  • Continued support to, and monitoring of, family planning providers through regular meetings and home visits

Why

Family planning was introduced to many rural health centres only relatively recently, and rural communities are still largely very suspicious and misinformed about it. However, there is a great demand for such services; women, who have on average 5 children, being keen to limit their family size. Providing family planning services is essential to breaking the cycle of poverty and environmental degradation.
